For fans of Fuji and Nigerian music generally, it is a known fact that the centre does not hold between two popular Fuji musicians, Saheed Osupa and his closest arch rival Wasiu Alabi Pasuma.
But, going by recent reports, it means this rivalry is probably going to get even deeper as Osupa who is more resident in Ibadan than Lagos, has broken into Pasuma’s territory with his chieftaincy title in Ojodu.
On Sunday, February 28, Saheed Osupa was given the title of Agbaakin of Ojoduland (Omole Defence minister) by the king of Ojodu, the Olojodu of Ojoduland. This title means that Osupa will have Pasuma as one of his subjects.
Meanwhile, reports from Naij.com reveal that in the Omole environ, Pasuma is fondly referred to as government of Omole and his house in Omole is called ‘State House’ by his fans.
The two musicians have been known to create one drama after the other almost on a weekly basis and their fans are usually not left out, as they attack one another on the streets just because of their support for these two fuji lords. To make it more interesting both musicians have the English football club they support and their fans also belong to their football club respectively. Basically most fuji fans either falls in Pasuma’s camp or Osupa’s camp.
Pasuma has nicknamed himself several names to show his supremacy in the industry with the recent one being Oganla fuji (The Boss of fuji music) while Osupa too was not left out. He nicknamed himself King of fuji music and latter Obanla fuji (the biggest king of fuji music).
We just hope that this chieftancy title will not cause another chaos in both camps.
